Ohio’s property tax exemption for disabled veterans.

100% (or IU): enhanced homestead shields $50,000+ of value, no income test. Here is who qualifies, what it covers, and how to claim it.

At a 100% permanent & total rating
The enhanced homestead exemption for disabled veterans removes the taxes on at least $50,000 of the home's market value (dwelling plus up to one acre) for veterans with a 100% rating or 100% compensation based on individual unemployability. Unlike Ohio's standard homestead exemption, there is no income test.
Below 100%
Below 100%, the standard age/income-based homestead exemption may apply instead; it is smaller and income-tested.
Income test
None for the disabled-veteran version.
Surviving spouses
A surviving spouse who lived in the home at the veteran's death and acquires ownership keeps the exemption until the year after remarrying.
How to apply
File form DTE 105I with your county auditor by December 31, with your DD-214 and the VA award letter (100% rating, or 100% compensation plus the IU determination).
Worth knowing
The $50,000 is the statutory base; Ohio began indexing homestead amounts upward for inflation in 2024, so the current shielded amount is higher. Your county auditor quotes the current year's figure.

Before you count on this: exemption law changes by legislative session, and counties administer the details. Confirm current amounts and deadlines with your county assessor or the official source below. Figures on this page were checked July 16, 2026.

A property-tax exemption lowers the monthly payment a lender counts in your file, which can raise what you qualify for. Run your numbers with the exemption’s effect via the buying-power calculator (use the property-tax override in advanced options), and see the funding fee guide for the other big disability-related saving.
