VA Loan Guide

Our mission

Every veteran should understand this benefit before anyone tries to sell them anything.

VA Loan Guide is an independent educational resource for military and veteran homebuyers. It explains how the benefit actually works, in plain language, with sources you can check yourself. Nothing here is for sale.

The problem

The VA loan is the most misunderstood mortgage product in America.

A 2026 industry survey found that 55% of veterans hold at least one misconception about the VA loan program. Forty percent of veteran non-homeowners said they would buy a home if they knew about the no-down-payment benefit. Most do not.

That gap exists partly because the program is genuinely complicated, and partly because the largest VA-loan marketers have been the loudest voices in the space, often with regulatory consequences the CFPB has not been shy about pursuing.

The goal of this site is small and specific: make sure that when a veteran sits down with any lender, they already understand the benefit they earned. After that, every decision is yours.

What we believe

Four commitments, kept on every page.

01

Education first, always

You should meet the math before you meet a salesperson. Every page here works toward that single outcome, and nothing here routes you into a sales process.

02

Education and origination don't belong on the same page

A guide that ends in a lead form isn't a guide. It's an ad with homework. We don't collect leads, and nothing on this site sits behind an email address.

03

Numbers you can check beat claims you have to trust

Every figure traces to an official publication like VA Pamphlet 26-7 or the published residual-income tables, and we tell you which one. You can verify us.

04

Plain language is a form of respect

Anyone who has navigated military bureaucracy can handle mortgage math, as long as someone bothers to explain it clearly. So if a sentence on this site needs a second read, tell us and we will rewrite it.

Editorial standards

The rules every page follows.

  1. 01

Every number traces to an official source

Funding fee percentages, residual-income minimums, entitlement math: each figure is checked against the current VA or DoD publication before it goes live, and guides say which one.

  2. 02

    No rates, ever

This site never displays or advertises an interest rate. Calculators that need one ask you to enter the rate you have been quoted. That keeps the tools educational, not promotional.

  3. 03

    Corrections are public

If a reader finds an error, we fix it and note the fix. An educational site is only worth the trust its numbers earn.

Start anywhere

Two good places to begin.

If you want a number, run the calculator. If you want to understand the benefit first, VA Loan 101 covers the whole program in one sitting.
