- At a 100% permanent & total rating
- Kansas has no disabled-veteran property tax exemption. What exists is the K-40SVR refund: for veterans rated 50%+ service-connected, the state refunds the amount your homestead tax grows above your base-year amount, effectively freezing the bill at the year you enter the program.
- Below 100%
- The same freeze applies at any rating of 50% or higher. Below 50%, only Kansas's general homestead refund programs (K-40H, SAFESR) are available, with their own income tests.
- Income test
- Yes: household income of $58,041 or less (2025) and a home valued at $350,000 or less in the base year.
- Surviving spouses
- A surviving spouse of a qualifying disabled veteran can continue claiming the refund.
- How to apply
- Claim annually with the K-40SVR form through the Kansas Department of Revenue at income tax time, with VA documentation of the 50%+ rating.
- Worth knowing
- The freeze protects against increases but never lowers the bill you start with, and the income and home-value limits exclude many buyers. Budget for the full unfrozen tax when you shop.
Before you count on this: exemption law changes by legislative session, and counties administer the details. Confirm current amounts and deadlines with your county assessor or the official source below. Figures on this page were checked July 16, 2026.

A property-tax exemption lowers the monthly payment a lender counts in your file, which can raise what you qualify for. Run your numbers with the exemption’s effect via the buying-power calculator (use the property-tax override in advanced options), and see the funding fee guide for the other big disability-related saving.
